NiceForest – a forest for our future

A project that ultimately aims to plant a million trees

We believe that this project, launched in 2015 by the association NiceFuture, becomes essential in the current context of massive deforestation in the Amazon. We now wish to change scale and grow this project through the Foundation for the Living.

With NiceForest, we would like to:

  • Work with the first peoples, the best guardians of the living, especially by collaborating with them to use seeds from ancestral forests
  • Allow the planting of endemic trees
  • Fund projects linking the wisdom of the first peoples and those of forest scientists or practitioners.

In concrete terms, plantations are planned in different ways :

Plantation by the first peoples of the Amazon

To begin these plantations, the Foundation will work mainly with the Puyanawa and Ashaninka peoples, in the state of Acre, in Brazil. These have already proved to be reliable partners in previous collaborations. We are in discussion with other peoples to build new collaborations.

Plantation by NGOs in the field

The seeds will be purchased from the first peoples living in the Amazon rainforest, providing them with a basic income. Tree planting will be carried out by First Peoples and Brazilian NGOs to restore deeply degraded lands and restore destroyed ecosystems.
